Hi all
I think Skydemon Flight Planning and its integration with NOTAMS is an outstanding piece of software.
However, I'm amazed there are no plans to produce an iPad app for GPS on the grounds that Windows-based devices are dominant.
Half the world is going iPad crazy, Industry and even hospitals are using them. While I understand the desire to sell (and acknowledge the investment made in) dedicated GPS hardware, most of us who have already bought a Garmin or similar (my Aera cost £500 odd quid and has the worst interface I have ever used) will want to go down the same road again.
In contrast, most users of mobile equipment are buying iPads anyway for other things. It has be far the best screen and Apple GUI is still streets ahead of anything else.
Skydemon, please reconsider. I can't believe porting to an app would be the end of the world and you would, in my opinion, clean up.

I have to agree. SkyDemon is missing a tremendous opportunity by not providing software for the iPad. I, for one would immediately purchase for the iPad because the two systems would be ideal together.
There is other software out there which although perhaps not quite as good, does work on the iPad and therefore there is no contest.

Or Android. As far as I know there is no real software for Android yet. Skydemon would be dominating in that case. It's of course a strategy and resource issue.

This has been discussed so many times before it's even in the FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions
Our products are very popular and we get asked a lot of questions about them. Just to save everybody some time, we've compiled this list of questions that we get asked a great deal, so you might find an answer to yours here.
Are there any plans to release SkyDemon for other platforms such as iPad or Android?
We have no announcements to make about these platforms at this time.
Why not?
At the time, the PC is the dominant platform in the desktop and portable markets, so it makes sense for us to devote our development resources to creating the best possible product on that platform rather than spreading our resources to create mediocre products on all platforms.

Yes I guess it is a bucket load of development but it would sell far more if it was on Ipad. There is no credible European Ipad apps (and yes I have air nav pro) for flying and I guess an Ipad version of skydemon would sell by the bucketload in the states too. I agree that it is by far the best piece of hardware out there. The only hope is that the forthcoming windows 8 tablets will be great. I tried it last week on a Fujitsu Q550 and it was awesome if you ignore the real lack of tablet support in windows 7. Once you are in Skydemon it is magic. I would still prefer it on an Ipad though as in Steve Jobs words "it would just work" where currently windows tablets crash and are slow and cumbersome in comparison. I love Skydemon though whatever the hardware!!!!

UBS analysts have raised their 2011 forecast for tablet sales, now predicting sales of 37.9 million iPads and 22.2 million Android tablets, a total 60.1 million units. Android sales rose from 3% in 2010 to 37% in 2011. 2012 estimates are for worldwide sales of 90 million tablets.
Maynard Um of UBS issued a note to investors, noting that checks had indicated “soft sell-through for non-iPad tablets.” He sees growth in the tablet industry being driven primarily by Apple’s touchscreen tablet.
“The tablet market has seen a significant increase in shelf space and competition in the past quarter,” Um said, adding that there is “limited visible differentiation” between non-iPad devices. Based on anecdotal retail checks, Samsung and Asustek are stand-outs, while Research in Motion and Hewlett Packard “do not appear to be gaining any critical mass.”
According to his calculations, Samsung will sell 5 million tablets in 2011, while Asus is expected to sell 2.2 million. Meanwhile, RIM and HP are projected to sell 1.9 million and 0.8 million respectively.
UBS predicts a possibility for an “inventory correction” which would see the first top-line Android tablets discounted and create the first real differentiation in the market. Android will continue to increase market share, and iPads will continue to increase sales, albeit at a slower pace. I was wandering around Best Buy in the USA with my hands firmly in my pocket and the proliferation of Android tablets was amazing. They were generally better equipped than the iPad, with barometers, sd card slots, USB etc. Even Dixons (Currys Digital) in the UK has a massive selection. The only difference Inoticed was a slight hesitation in rotation of images, but you could only notice when comparing them side by side.

Although the ipad is lovely device, I think for this purpose an Android version would be more useful. Android is much more likely to be adopted by specialist device manufacturers with high brightness, sunlight readable screens, and a choice of screen sizes, etc, whereas Apple will always be driven by the mainstream consumer market.
The prospect of 7/8" iPad mini goes some way to address this but Samsung et al lead the way with screen technology.

I also agree that I think Apple products are far better than Windows and love my IMac, IPad and IPhone. I would never go back to a windows product. I only run Parallels on my IMac so I can run SkyDemon. PLEASE can we have SkyDemon on the IPad.
Thanks
Tony
